The Science Between CBD and THC!
The Science Between CBD & THC
Chemically speaking, CBD and THC have the exact same chemical makeup. Both have
* 21 carbon atoms
* 30 hydrogen atoms
* 2 oxygen atoms
So how are they different? By the arrangement of a single atom.
The placement of a single atom can mean the difference between – THC and CBD, or Psychoactive and non-psychoactive.
THC and CBD are chemical compounds that act on the cannabinoid receptors in the brain, (CB1) and (CB2).
CB1 receptors are found abundantly in regions of the brain responsible for mental and physiological processes such as memory, high cognition, emotion, and motor coordination.
CB2 receptors are found throughout the central nervous and immune systems.
Because of the difference in molecular structures between THC and CBD, their interactions with CB1 and CB2 receptors are vastly different.
THC’s molecular structure allows it to bind directly with CB1 receptors and when this bond is formed, signals are sent to the brain causing psychoactive effects.
In contrast, CBD does NOT bond directly with the CB1 receptor, AND its presence can even deflect the bond between THC and the CB1 receptors, neutralizing the psychoactive effects caused by THC.
CBD has been used to help with various conditions such as seizures, inflammation, pain, psychosis or mental disorders, nausea, migraines, depression and anxiety.
Although research indicates that both CBD and THC may provide medical benefits – they are drastically different in how they affect your brain.
You should always consult with your healthcare provider before consuming a new dietary product.
